Makena Cook Named 2026 First Team Elite All-American Quarterback

Sierra Canyon High School (California) | Quarterback | Class of 2026

Few athletes have helped shape the national rise of girls flag football the way Makena Cook has.

After rewriting record books and leading Orange Lutheran to one of the nation's premier flag football programs, Cook enters her senior season at Sierra Canyon High School as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in America. Her remarkable production, championship pedigree, leadership, and national recognition have earned her selection as a 2026 First Team Elite All-American Quarterback.

Cook's influence extends well beyond statistics. She has become one of the sport's most recognizable ambassadors, helping demonstrate the level of talent now emerging in girls flag football while setting a standard for the next generation of quarterbacks.

Why Elite All-American Selected Her

Elite quarterbacks consistently elevate everyone around them. Makena Cook has done exactly that throughout her high school career.

Her command of the offense, exceptional football IQ, anticipation, and accuracy allow her to attack defenses with confidence. She processes coverages quickly, distributes the football efficiently, and performs with remarkable composure regardless of the moment.

Cook's leadership has been equally impressive. Whether directing championship-caliber offenses or representing the United States internationally, she has consistently demonstrated the poise, preparation, and competitive mindset expected from one of the nation's elite signal callers.

Those qualities made her a clear First Team Elite All-American selection.

A Historic High School Career

Cook assembled one of the most productive careers in high school girls flag football while starring at Orange Lutheran High School.

As a sophomore, she threw for 6,611 passing yards and 97 touchdown passes, leading the Lancers to a Southern Section championship.

She followed with an even more remarkable junior season, throwing for 7,083 passing yards and 112 touchdowns, finishing among the nation's statistical leaders while guiding Orange Lutheran to the Southern Section Division I Championship Game and a Top-10 national ranking.

Her extraordinary performance earned her MaxPreps California Girls Flag Football Player of the Year honors and national All-America recognition.

Despite suffering a broken leg during the offseason, Cook returned to competition in early 2026 and immediately reminded everyone why she is considered one of the nation's elite quarterbacks, throwing four first-half touchdown passes in her return.

For her senior season, Cook transferred to Sierra Canyon High School, where she will help launch one of California's newest girls flag football programs while continuing one of the sport's most decorated careers.

National Recognition

Cook's impact reaches well beyond California.

She earned selection to Team USA's 17U Girls Flag Football National Team, representing the United States in international competition during 2026.

She also made history by becoming one of the earliest high school girls flag football players to receive a scholarship opportunity connected to a Power Four football program when Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule personally extended an offer as the university prepared to launch varsity women's flag football.

Already committed to play soccer at the University of Georgia, Cook's recruitment reflects the rapidly expanding opportunities available to elite female athletes as collegiate flag football continues its historic growth.

Elite All-American Evaluation

Makena Cook possesses every characteristic expected of a nationally elite quarterback.

She throws with outstanding anticipation, maintains consistent mechanics, and delivers one of the most accurate passing games in high school flag football. Her ability to recognize defensive leverage before the snap allows her to stay one step ahead of opposing defenses, while her leadership and calm demeanor make her the unquestioned leader of every offense she commands.

More importantly, Cook consistently elevates the players around her. She understands situational football, protects possessions, and thrives in championship environments.

Those traits have made her one of the defining quarterbacks of this era of girls flag football.

Future Outlook

Few athletes have influenced the growth of girls flag football as significantly as Makena Cook.

Her historic production, national accolades, international experience, and leadership have established her as one of the defining players of the sport's early era. As collegiate women's flag football continues to expand across the country, Cook's career serves as an example of the opportunities now available to elite female athletes.

Her legacy is already secure, but her impact on the continued growth of girls flag football is only beginning.

Elite All-American recognizes the nation's premier high school football and girls flag football athletes through a comprehensive evaluation process that values production, athletic ability, football IQ, leadership, competitiveness, and long-term potential.
